Axiata Announces Key New Appointments to Further Strengthen its Management Team and Talent Pool
Kuala Lumpur, 15 January 2016 - In line with its expansion, Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) today announced several key appointments to further strengthen its management team and continue in its efforts to improve its talent and human capital development.
Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, currently CEO of Dialog1 Group in Sri Lanka takes on the additional role of Regional CEO for Axiata to drive synergies within its South Asian footprint which spans Robi2 in Bangladesh; Dialog in Sri Lanka; the Group’s affiliate, Idea3 in India; and upon completion of the proposed acquisition, Ncell4 in Nepal.
Dr. Hans joined Dialog’s founding management team in 1994 and has been the CEO of the Dialog Group since 1997. Under his stewardship, Dialog has led Sri Lanka’s mobile telecommunication market since 2000. The Dialog Group is also the market leader in the country’s pay television sector and is the leading provider of fixed telecommunications services. Dr. Hans, a renowned digital mobile communications professional, also served as the founding CEO of Axiata Digital Services – the digital services arm of Axiata from 2012 to 2014. He continues to serve on the board of the business unit and several of its digital venture subsidiaries.
Dominic P Arena, previously Managing Director of AEC Advisory has been appointed as Axiata Group Chief Strategy Officer. Dominic has over 20-years’ telecom industry experience of which 15-years has been in Asia. AEC Advisory is a Singapore-based regional strategic and corporate advisory firm serving telecom, media and financial institution clients in market-entry strategy, mergers and acquisitions and regulatory policy development. Prior to AEC, Dominic was with Value Partners as a global equity Partner and Managing Partner for ASEAN & SAARC regions, and a Director with KPMG Advisory. Dominic replaces René Werner, who has held a dual role as Axiata Group Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Strategy Officer for Celcom and will now focus fully on Celcom.
Mohd Asri Hassan has been appointed as Group Head of Business Operations. The Business Operations unit will focus on enhancing the performance of Axiata’s new business units, Qorus Alliance, and managing the performance of Operating Companies and coordinating group-wide synergies as well as driving some direct synergies.
Mohd Asri joins the Group with over 27 years of experience in various management, consulting and entrepreneur engagements in the IT and telecom industries. Mohd Asri was Country President of Motorola Malaysia from 2006 till 2008. He joins Axiata from an entrepreneurial role as Strategic Partner with Capital Partners – an established South Asia private equity company.
