Axiata Presents Its Inaugural Supplier Awards Recognising Operational and Process Excellence

Kuala Lumpur, 5 May 2016 - Axiata Group Berhad (“Axiata” or “the Group”) held its Group-wide inaugural Axiata Supplier Awards recently, in recognition of outstanding performance of its technology suppliers in the Southeast Asia and South Asia region.

Held at Axiata Tower, three suppliers were presented awards by President & Group Chief Executive Officer of Axiata, Dato’ Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim and they were Huawei, Orissa Wicomm and Ericsson.

Jamaludin said, “As a regional telecommunications champion serving approximately 290 million customers across Asia, suppliers form an integral part of our business operations, helping us provide world-class technology and connectivity. The Axiata Supplier Awards was launched to celebrate the successes of our suppliers in enhancing their business processes through process excellence and operational efficiencies to support Axiata.

“We established a group-wide Axiata Procurement Centre with the aim of encouraging our suppliers to continually improve quality and deliver on performance. It is also equally important they incorporate sustainability processes in their operations through the adoption of best practices which are transparent and ethically fair. In line with this, we have been focusing on ensuring Operational and Process Excellence in the value chain of suppliers across all our markets within our footprint in Asia.”

The Axiata Supplier Awards were held in conjunction with the Axiata Supplier Forum 2016, with award recipients identified through a performance evaluation process conducted across four key strategic pillars, namely, Commercial and Contract Compliance; Quality and Operational Performance; Ethics and Sustainability; and Strategy and Roadmap. The four pillars are aligned with Axiata’s long term goal of being a New Generation Telco, taking a holistic approach towards enhancing the performance of suppliers in terms of strategy, sustainability and ethics in addition to operational factors.

Axiata has a pool of key technology suppliers across the region, covering network and IT categories. The Supplier Performance Management (SPM) process and Supplier Awards represent the next phase of growth of Axiata Procurement Centre, which sources high quality products and services, focused on Axiata’s network and IT hardware and software needs.

Through its SPM process which has been standardized across the Group, Axiata will drive continuous improvement within its base of suppliers, at the same time motivating excellent performance and raising the bar on standards of delivery of products and services. The SPM process, together with Axiata’s Operating Companies (OpCos) Supplier Management Programmes, provides upskilling and capacity building for suppliers which ensure Axiata suppliers are able to deliver consistent services across all markets of operation. This is aligned with Axiata’s long term growth strategy and Axiata’s National Contribution as a long term and committed investor in all its countries of operation.

The recipients of the Axiata Supplier Awards 2016 demonstrated the following strengths during the SPM process:
