Axiata Announces Global Industry Expert as New Director
Kuala Lumpur, 11 December 2017 – Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) announced the appointment of Dr David R Dean, (aged 59), British, as an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) of its Board effective 11 December 2017.
Dr Dean, a former senior partner and global head of the technology and telecoms practice at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), has over 28 years of experience in consulting, strategic projects and advisory work for leading high-tech, telecommunications and Internet companies around the world. Before retirement from BCG in 2013, he had led a multitude of projects in over 25 countries, and served multinational clients in Europe, the US, as well as Africa, India, China, SE Asia and Japan.
In more recent years, Dr Dean has been advising clients on matters such as technological disruption, and addressing the connectivity needs in fast developing emerging countries. Since 2010, Dr Dean has worked extensively in the area of the digital economy. His work involved examining challenges around data privacy and cyber-security, as well as the opportunities arising from the Internet of Things (IoT).
Given his global industry expertise, Dr Dean has contributed to and participated in key programmes at the World Economic Forum, most notably on personal data protection and encouraging investment in the digital infrastructure. He is also a member of the Forum’s Global Future Council on the Digital Economy and Society.
Dr Dean holds a First Class Honours (BA) in Physics, a D.Phil in Theoretical Nuclear Physics and a Master of Arts in Physics from University of Oxford.
