Axiata Announces Khazanah Deputy Managing Director as New Board Member
Kuala Lumpur, 12 January 2018 – Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) announced the appointment of Deputy Managing Director of Khazanah National Berhad (Khazanah), YM Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin bin Raja Abdul Aziz, (aged 47), Malaysian, as the newest addition to its Board. He replaces Kenneth Shen, who has served on the Board of Axiata as Khazanah nominee since 2011. With the appointment, Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil will represent the strategic investment fund as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director (NINED) of Axiata effective 12 January 2018.
Joining Khazanah in 2011 as Executive Director of Investments, Tengku Dato' Sri Azmil managed Khazanah’s investments in a number of areas, including Innovation and Technology as well as oversight for its offices in San Francisco and Khazanah Koridor Utara in Penang.
Prior to joining Khazanah, Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil was the Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines, having had served as the airline’s Executive Director / Chief Financial Officer in August 2005. He had also functioned as a Non-Executive Board Director since August 2004. Formerly the Chief Financial Officer and then Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad, Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil was also with PricewaterhouseCoopers in their London and Hong Kong offices where he worked in the Audit and Business Advisory Services division, specialising in financial services.
Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil holds a first class degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He is a Chartered Accountant and an associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is also an Associate of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, United Kingdom.
