Axiata Announces New Appointments to Further Strengthen its Management Team & Develop Internal Talents
Kuala Lumpur 7th July 2010, Axiata Group Berhad, (“Axiata”), today announced key new appointments as part of ongoing efforts towards developing talent and strengthening its human capital. Enhancing the corporate centre, the Group has appointed Donald James Rae as Senior Vice President, Group Business Development & Regional Operations, reporting directly to the President & Group CEO of Axiata, effective 1 July 2010. Alongside this new appointment, the Group is also making some internal changes reflecting Axiata's strategy of harnessing internal talents.
Donald James Rae has had over 20 years in the fiercely competitive telecommunications industry which included time as COO at Smart Communications Philippines, CEO with Essar Telecom Business Group in India and most recently, as consultant to Dialog Group in Sri Lanka, assisting Dialog Group's turnaround programme. At Smart, he was instrumental in rolling out the GSM network and IT infra buildup which saw Smart Group overtaking Globe, the then leader, in GSM business. Under his stewardship, Smart pioneered mobile commerce and electronic loading and e-commerce systems, and continues to be a leader in this field today.

The Group has also appointed Eric Chong, as Hello Axiata's Chief Marketing Officer effective 21 June 2010, based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Formerly Head of Consumer & Enterprise Sales of Digi Malaysia, Eric will be responsible for driving marketing, sales & distribution in Hello.
Alongside these new hires, the Group has also made a few internal changes towards harnessing talents from within, via the platform of regional exposure in different markets. Suresh Sidhu, Head of Regional Development, will be moving from the Corporate Centre to Dialog in Sri Lanka as Chief Officer, Enterprise and Global Business. The new position will allow him an opportunity to extend his experience in the international wholesale arena with anew focus on serving large corporations directly.Replacing him will be Thivanka Rangala, who on top of his current role of providing support to the President & Group CEO's Office, will also be heading Regional Development reporting to Don Rae. This unit provides the key link between the Group and the operating companies in the areas of support, synergies and performance management as well as monitoring.Thivanka is currently on a development assignment from Dialog as part of the Group's Talent Management Programme.
At the same time, Nora Junita Hussaini, previously on assignment as CFO of Axiata Bangladesh, is returning to Corporate Centre in Kuala Lumpur, to take up a newly established position of Head, Group Treasury, Axiata. Replacing her in Bangladesh is a local Bangladeshi, details of who will be announced at a later date.
