Axiata Appoints New Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at its Bangladesh Operations
Kuala Lumpur, 3rd August 2009 - Axiata Group Berhad (formerly known as TM International Berhad) (“Axiata”), today announced a new key management position in the Group's Bangladeshi operations, Axiata (Bangladesh) Limited, with Mr. Michael Kuehner as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will join September 1st, taking over the role officially on October 1st. The assignment is part of Axiata's ongoing efforts to strengthen management at its operating companies (OpCos), with a focus on recruiting the best talents as well as grooming new talents. Michael will replace the incumbent CEO Jefri Thambi who will be joining the senior management team in one of Axiata's Operating Companies after completing his term.
Michael has had an extensive career in the telecommunications and IT industry spanning more than 30 years with executive positions in Sales and Marketing, Service and Project Management in various international locations. Prior to taking up the appointment with Axiata he was the Head of India/Nepal Sub-Region with Nokia Siemens Networks and instrumental in strengthening operational capability and driving post merger integration. Michael has spent considerable time in Asia, first as SVP in Siemens Malaysia, Managing Director of SPCNL Ltd India and Head of Japan/Korea Sub-Region with Nokia Siemens Networks. As Managing Director of Siemens India he was responsible for implementing the successful turnaround strategy in a fiercely competitive market which saw top line increasing by 30% in the first year. He has a track record in building strong teams, growing market share and driving operational efficiency.

Michael's appointment will complement the recently assembled management team which includes the Chief Technology Officer, previously with Ericsson, and Chief Commercial Officer from Grameen Phone.
