Over the last year, our infrastructure company, edotco spearheaded our approach to reduce our environmental impact without comprising the continuous growth and expansion of our networks.
At Axiata, our commitment to Planet & Society is premised on reducing our environmental footprint, whilst growing our social footprint.
Our environmental initiatives are geared towards reducing energy consumption and mitigating climate change. They are primarily driven through our infrastructure company, edotco, which is spearheading the Group’s efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. edotco has set itself a target of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% by 2018 from 2013 levels.
To create value and meaningful impacts and in the communities we serve, a wide range of community outreach initiatives are rolled out through our Group and OpCo’s corporate responsibility (CR) projects. As we move into Phase 2 of our Sustainability Journey, all our OpCos now have a common sustainability focus on three core CR initiatives in the areas of Young Talent Development, Green Initiatives and Disaster Management and Response.
Our role in Disaster Management and Response is guided by our membership of the GSMA’s Humanitarian Connectivity Charter, which commits its signatories to a common set of principles that aim to create a more coordinated and predictable response to disasters. Launched on 2 March 2015, Axiata has played and intends to continue playing an active role in the Charter in leading the conversation in terms of disaster management, planning and response as well as actively participating in humanitarian and disaster relief efforts.
